Walnut Grove, Sunday, April 13, 2008![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Find Waldo. I lined up at the back. First of all I look really hard for my "group". Surely I was not racing against these young children. While I was standing there one young lad was saying that he won this race the first time he raced it. He remembered that he started sprinting early and opened a huge gap but he had started his sprint too early. Even with the gap he was almost caught at the line. The pack was bearing down on him. The guy he was talking to said, "yeah, don't you hate it when the pack is bearing down on you?" Hundreds of years ago I won small races and centuries, 300 kilometer rides etc. These guys were the real deals. I was off the back soon enough. I tried to spin up a hill when I should have stomped a big gear I suppose. Regardless neither my legs nor my lungs could meet the task. Sure enough I was soon on a Gilligan's Island Tour. No markings for the course. I had lived there decades ago and just went for a bike ride. ![]() Kent is on the back side. ![]() ![]() I got in the rear so that I wouldn't slow these guys down. ![]() . ![]() Here is Brian Hackathorne with his new BATTLEAXE, by Kane. ![]() ![]() ![]() Kent on the left goes way back. He has tailgate parties after the battles. ![]() ![]() Sterling was once again a factor today until his front derailleur broke. ![]() Sterling ![]() ![]() Ladies, go! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The lady's race was spread out. Jane made friends with a bunch of ladies who were dropped. The course wasn't marked and if you're off the back in this race you have to guess how to get back with no lead car. Jane chased a nurse who went off course and was actually on call that day. I heard several thank-yous from several ladies to Jane and her kindness. ![]() The ladies have a sprint at the end that Jane takes. ![]() This was the strongest Cat. 5 today.
