The Famous 4 Brides Ride August 16th, 2008![]() I made the chart too small but it reads that at 34.5 miles we were 29 ft. below sea level. At 40 miles we were at 228 ft. above sea level. It seems odd that my Garmin would read 116 feet below sea level at 66 miles. I failed to turn my computer on a couple times briefly so my mileage is low. The mileage should be 85. The GPS says we climbed and descended about 6650 feet. This seems too much. This must be in error. Input please. Everyone waited. Toward the end of the ride a truce was imposed. We were all to ride at 17 to 18 mph. I was tailing James but hadn't seen numbers on my computer in quite a while. My glasses were foggy, wet, or muddy all day. The numbers are small on my Garmin. James accidentally pulled us away from the others. I was a mess. I failed to eat and I was out of fluids. Once again I failed to plan. When you fail to plan you plan to fail. I was the weakest link at this point. It was a friendly ride but hard enough. It wasn't a race and yet at times we raced. Trying to keep up at times was stressful to say the least. It is here that I relegate myself to finishing last in my group. I didn't hold the 17 to 18 pace agreed on. I didn't wait although I was certain the others would be up soon. I was at the end of my rope, resources, energy, pain threshold, etc. When this happens as it did in on the Orangebonk ride I honestly want to lie down. Not only do I want to stop from lack of energy, but I know that when I stop, the pain will ease. Riding on means the pain in my lower right back will increase as will the pain running through my hip. The pain in my neck and down my arms will increase. So these are maladies that I deal with. I've seen that thirst, hunger, and fatigue compound my situation. The guys were very strong and rode hard all day but were kind and patient. They usually wait on their comrades. Upon getting back to JJJs I couldn't think very well. I had to have fluids. Still wearing my helmet, I ordered and gave the wrong change for it. I had an orange drink (Orangella? it's been a while) that was superb and right away. I was having a protein shake as well. ![]() John talks about some routes. It was a protein shake today. ![]() |
